Cask Fest is THIS weekend! Two four-hour sessions of superb cask-conditioned beer tasting madness courtesy of many of our state's finest breweries. Our lineup this year includes a couple of fun-loving ales and another couple of BIG IPA's:
1. Tabas-cocoa Stout
2. Oak-soaked Belgian Brown
3. Pro-Am Imperial IPA v3.0
4. Burien Birthday Imperial IPA (pinch hitting for Demolition)
Hellmouth IPA, another in our series of Imperial or Strong IPA's, was brewed this week in Burien.
The name stems from the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which takes place in Sunnydale) and refers to "a focal point which serves as a portal between earth and Hell. The Hellmouth attracts demons and other supernatural creatures, becoming a "hot spot" for supernatural activity."
We thought that was a pretty good description of what happens when we ferment a 7% ABV beer in Burien (a.k.a. Sunnydale)!
Keep an eye out here for future updates on the release of this seasonal brew.
Paul Cervenka, award-winning Puget Sound-area home brewer (pictured at left), is in West Seattle today brewing his Pro-Am Imperial IPA together w/ our Lead Brewer, Dan Ashley.
Last time we brewed this back in 2008 we managed to squeeze out about 8% ABV. If all goes as planned, we should get there again this time around.
Thanks to Paul for taking part in this project (brew #3). We look forward to pouring this beer in both of our pubs and maybe in March at Cask Fest too!
Viva the home brewers!

We're pouring a cask of Dry-hopped California Ave. IPA today in Burien.
The keg will be tapped at 3:00 PM
A special dry-hopped version of our Hellmouth Imperial IPA will be on tap this weekend at the IPA Fest being held at Brouwer's Cafe in Fremont.
Check out the full line-up of beers on their blog.
The keg was dry-hopped with Centennial leaf.
On tap in Burien this month for Cask Second Wednesday is a keg of Dry-Hopped IPA.
Drop by the Burien pub TODAY at 3:00 for the tapping. The keg pours 'til she blows...

Here's an opportunity to VOTE for your favorite Washington IPA.
The poll is being conducted by Seattle Beer News blog:
"Since it is too cruel to ask you to vote for just one, you are allowed to vote for up to three of your favorite IPAs. Consider this “market research”. I apologize in advance for any favorites I’ve left off; please use the “other” choice. Only looking for standard IPAs; no Belgian, dark or fruity IPAs, etc…"
We're working out the final details of a new Imperial IPA recipe that will be brewed in Burien next week. Our working title for the beer is "Hellmouth IPA."
The name stems from the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which takes place in Sunnydale) and refers to "a focal point which serves as a portal between earth and Hell. The Hellmouth attracts demons and other supernatural creatures, becoming a "hot spot" for supernatural activity."

Join us on this Wednesday, May 13 at the Burien Brewhouse for our monthly tapping of a cask-conditioned beer produced at our sister pub in West Seattle.
This month we'll pour a keg of dry-hopped California Ave. IPA, made by the very capable hands of Brewer Dan Ashley. The keg was naturally carbonated and we'll be pouring it from the beer engine starting at 3:00 PM.
